Corinthians does not hold Flamengo and postpones entry into the G4 of the Brazilian

by

Corinthians lost to Flamengo on this Wednesday night (17), 1-0, with a goal by Bruno Henrique in the 47th minute of the second half, to the party of more than 48 thousand fans who attended the Maracanã.

With the result, coach Sylvinho’s team heads to the G4 of the Brazilian Championship, an area that, for now, gives direct place to the 2022 Copa Libertadores group stage.

The Alvinegros, who parked in fifth place with 50 points, have a game less than Red Bull Bragantino, fourth place with 52 points.

Flamengo, on the other hand, with the triumph, remains in the fight for the title, even though Atlético-MG’s advantage is considerable. The rubro-negros have 63 points, and are eight behind the Belo Horizonte team, with six games to go in the competition.

Current two-time national champions, Flamengo’s main objective of the season is the final of the Copa Libertadores. On the 27th, in Montevideo, Renato Gaúcho’s team will face Palmeiras for the conquest of America.

On Wednesday, the Flamengo fans were better than the visitors throughout the match.

In the first half, Renato’s team imprinted a strong rhythm at the beginning, but decreased the intensity as it approached the break. Corinthians, who missed Hugo’s goal, tried to take advantage of counterattacks, but stopped in the red-black marking.

The script for the final stage was similar to that of the first 45 minutes, but coach Sylvinho’s team acted even more withdrawn from the middle of the second half. The cariocas forced a good defense from Cassio and even hit the crossbar.

The reward for superiority came in stoppages, after a good move by Rodinei on the right. The full-back gave Gabriel a pen, went to the bottom line and crossed the head of Bruno Henrique, who tested against Cássio’s counterfoot to give Flamengo the victory.

In the next round, Corinthians will face Santos, on Sunday (21), at the Neo Química Arena. As Red Bull Bragantino has already played in the 34th round and does not play for the Brazilian Nationals over the weekend, as they will be in Montevideo for the decision of the Sul-Americana (against Athletico), Sylvinho’s team will have the chance to enter the G4.

Flamengo will visit Internacional, on Saturday (20), one week before the Libertadores final.
