The finish of the 1st stage in Chania today at noon!

From Heraklion, moving south to Rethymno in the direction of Chania, where they end, the 133 cyclists start their difficult task in the 1st stage of the PPC Cycling Tour of Greece.

This is a very demanding stage, moving on the outskirts of the White Mountains and highlighting the diversity of the geomorphology of Crete. At 179.0 km long it is the largest.

The finish is planned in the Old Port of Chania in Neoria



Competitively, he is expected to give the first discard regarding the battle of the general classification.

At the start and finish of the first stage are present the Deputy Minister of Sports Lefteris Avgenakis with the US Ambassador Jeffrey Payat, as well as the representatives of PPC, major sponsor of the event, Christina Korai and Dimitris Gondikas.

The Undersecretary of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, and the US Ambassador to Greece, Jeffrey Payat, symbolically started the 1st stage, before the cyclists, covered the first 10km and waited for the peloton to cross to applaud it.

Chania and Rethymnon Parallel Action Program



In the context of the parallel actions of the “International Cycling Tour of Greece”, the Municipality of Chania in collaboration with the Region of Crete, the Regional Unit of Chania, the K.E.P.PE.DI.H.-K.A.M., the department of classic bicycles, the Classic Motorcycle Club of Chania, and Cycling Greece, present the exhibition of classic bicycles entitled “Wheel is a must turn”. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 26/04 at 19.00, at the “Mikis Theodorakis” Theater. Also, the Municipality of Chania and the Regional Unit of Chania, jointly organize parallel activities for children that include educational programs, seminars on safe driving and road behavior, as well as awareness actions for alternative modes of transportation. The special actions have already started last Saturday with the 1st Bicycle Academy, which took place outside the Giali Mosque, in the Old Port of Chania, where the awards of the 1st stage of the PPC International tour of Hellas will take place, after 15:00 at noon on Wednesday 27/4/2022.

Rethymno has also organized actions, while the International Youth Days are in progress with the participation of young cyclists from abroad.

It should be noted that the Hellenic Hoteliers Association offered the winner of the first straight sprint in Rethymno a gift of a seven-day stay for two people in a 4-star hotel in Rethymno!
