The Margaret River Pro world stage that defined who remains in contention for the 2022 world title ended yesterday with the victory of Isabella Nichols and Jack Robinson, both Australians.
by Janaína Pedroso
For Isabella, in addition to guaranteeing a spot in the elite, the victory marks her first achievement in a stage of the CT.
Likewise for Jack, who celebrated his special victory, at home and breaking a 33-year fast, as the last Western Australian surfer to win Margaret was Dave Macaulay in 1989.
Isabella defeated Hawaiian Gabriela Bryan and Jack Robinson defeated John John Florence, also from Hawaii.
Live gaffe and bellyache
WSL presenter and commentator Kaipo Guerreiro, when celebrating the Australian’s victory, seconds after the result and next to the athlete, called him John John Florence.
“Enjoy John John Florence you are the champion, I mean sorry Jack Robinson!”
Kolohe Andino claimed not to feel well in his stomach and did not compete. The heat with the American was the first of the day and made his opponent, John John Florence, advance straight to the quarterfinals.
Controversies of all time
There is not a single stage in which the controversial “forkful” does not enter the agenda. It even looks like a command. This time the Brazilians Filipe Toledo and Jadson André starred in the imbroglio commanded by the League’s judges.
With a very close result, in which Nat Young won 15.66 and Filipe Toledo 15.63, I wonder what criteria are these that determine a victory by such a tiny difference. In fact, three of the five judges gave scores that would allow the Brazilian to win. In fact, that was the argument used by the athlete himself in the networks.
With Jadson behind the scenes, there’s talk of blatant robbery. Honestly, I didn’t see the Brazilian’s heat, because as soon as I watched Toledo’s weird defeat, I did myself the favor of going to bed. The time zone really makes life difficult for those who enjoy following the steps, but there is more to do with life the next day.
G-land next, with Medina
Awaited by everyone who loves surfing with emotion, G-Land should excite. That’s because the wave is perfectly amazing and we should have Gabriel Medina back on the tour. The Brazilian returns as a guest after an absence due to depression. Medina went live yesterday during Filipe Toledo’s drum set.
Gabriel basically said he doesn’t want any pressure on his shoulders and goes to G-land to have fun and make life difficult for those who cross his path.
