Kia has once again secured many high-profile awards at the iF Design Awards 2022, marking the strength of the brand’s Opposites United design profile, as well as the innovative approach of customers through the brand’s current and future electric models.
The all-electric crossover EV6 starred in all four of Kia’s iF Design Awards. In addition to winning the Automobiles / Vehicles design award, the EV6 was the focus of three other awards in the categories: “Shops / Showrooms” (for innovative design and aesthetics in showroom design – EV6 Unplugged Ground), Product Interface “(For the EV6 Infotainment system) and” Textile / Wall / Floor “(for the GEONIC 3D hybrid material used in the EV6 cab).
The EV6 won the “Cars / Vehicles” design category thanks to its “embodiment of inspirational mobility”. This is the first time that Kia has used the brand’s brand new advanced Electric-Global Modular Platform architecture and pioneered the Opposites United design philosophy that combines emotion with logic to relax users and inspire movement and creativity.
Kia has won the “Shops / Showrooms” category with its groundbreaking application of the “EV6 Unplugged Ground” design architecture and functionality in Seongsu, Seoul, which was created to introduce people to the award-winning EV6 in fun and imaginative ways through immersive experience zones. The next-generation showroom also shares Kia’s message for new lifestyles – including recycling, sustainability and targeted mobility solutions for the future.
EV6’s advanced infotainment system won the iF Design Award 2022 for “Product Interface”. The panoramic, high-resolution curved screen of the system supports and enhances the driver experience and harmonizes with the overall aesthetics of the interior. Also, the design of the instruments goes beyond the circular graphics of internal combustion engine vehicles and focuses on the development of graphics that are optimized for eco-friendly electric vehicles. The green and purple color palette of the system, which conveys a “modern image”, was also highlighted by the judges.
Kia GEONIC state-of-the-art interior lining material, created in collaboration with KOLON, received the iF Design Award for “Car Interior Design Material”. This 3D hybrid material laminates many layers of PU, allowing unlimited designs and a wide range of colors. It is a simple but innovative and new technique that is applied to bring new approaches to the interior of the vehicle.
With these latest distinctions, the design Kia EV6 maintains an excellent winning streak. Ever since it premiered in 2021, the vehicle has been the subject of media criticism around the world, winning the What Car? “Car of the Year 2022” and the “European Car of the Year” awards – among many others – in just a few months from its release.
