by

After two years affected by the pandemic, restaurants reported an increase of more than 30% in revenue on Mother’s Day this year compared to the date in 2021, according to Paulo Solmucci, president of Abrasel, an industry association.

In comparison with Mother’s Day 2019, in the pre-pandemic, Solmucci talks about estimates of 10% to 15% high this weekend.

“It’s the first time we have to bring families together. Even though, in 2021, there was already some progress, there was a concern for older people. [Hoje] it’s been fantastic. Everything is packed,” she says.

According to him, there was an effort by the establishments to hold the pass-through of the increase in costs, which may have contributed to the positive performance.

Sylvio Lazzarini, director of Varanda Grill restaurants and member of Fhoresp (Federation of Hotels, Restaurants, Bars and Similar of the State of São Paulo), also sees the movement this weekend as positive, which has recovered the level of 2019, according to him.

“We feel that the level of consumer confidence is higher. And there is also that thing of ‘I need to get together with the family, I need to celebrate and live'”, he says.

In the South region, the result was also positive. Balneário Camboriú and other tourist cities had full restaurants, thanks to the release of restrictions and the good weather, says Fábio Aguayo, president of Abrabar, an association of bars and nightclubs.

According to him, owners of establishments in Santa Felicidade, a gastronomic center in Curitiba, reported that this was the best Mother’s Day in the last five years.
