How GoPro helped me regain my self-esteem – Origin Surf

by

I don’t forget the day: it was a beautiful morning and I was especially exhausted. I waited for my son to doze off to open the email box.

That’s when I read: “Contact GoPro”.

“Must be a mistake”, I thought. “After all, what would a GoPro want with a puerperal mother, who had just given birth?”

What I didn’t imagine was that a simple invitation to accompany the launch of the camera HERO10 Black would give back part of who I was that I was completely forgotten about because of motherhood.

It was then that I decided to accept GoPro’s invitation and embark on a journey, which I didn’t know, but would be transformative as it made me feel alive again. Live professionally.

“Janaína journalist” was back and it was not a wish, it was real.

feeling like people again

Despite loving my son, I felt that my freedom was stolen by motherhood. And nobody talks about it. It seems that in our society, the fundamental role of a woman is to be a mother, the rest is secondary.

So being a mother is beautiful. They talk about unconditional love, but they forget to tell the other side that has pain, loneliness, deprivation, financial dependence and limited freedom.

So it didn’t take long for me to realize that I was in a crisis about who I was professionally and how I was going to get my career back, if I ever had one.

In order to have myself again, I started to think about the idea of surfing again. Fortunately, three months after giving birth I was back in the water. That was a comeback, but it wasn’t enough.

HERO10 Black here I come

I’ve always been passionate about GoPro, my first was a HERO3 Silver Edition, now vintage and which I keep as a relic.

I bought it second hand, that’s what happened at the time, but it was brand new and how I used this camera!

For me, the GoPro has always been synonymous with adventure, freedom and revolution. The first time I heard about her, I wondered how it was possible to be that small and so powerful!

That’s why I’m passionate about the GoPro, because I love everything it stands for.

Post-maternity rescue and amid the pandemic

I became a mother in the middle of the pandemic, that means that what is already difficult got more complicated. I didn’t go to playgrounds, I didn’t make friends with other mothers, I didn’t go to the swimming academy, I didn’t participate in support groups. My son was born in July 2020, one of the most critical moments of Covid-19.

Despite the difficulty, I still consider myself blessed. After all, I had had the birth I dreamed of, my son was extremely healthy and my partner was super partner. I had nothing to complain about.

Still, I felt a little lost. With my reduced income, I started to worry about the independent Janaína and especially about the woman who loved to write, work, produce, travel, photograph and share.

It was then that I embarked on the rescue trip. I covered the GoPro launch and from then on, I gained motivation to get back to who I am.

Finally, with GoPro I got back to my adventurous side, dreaming of a career, travel and new possibilities again.

Definitely the GoPro can be much more than a camera. She is inspiration and motivation to live, record and share your best moments.

Thank you, GoPro!
