Four “other” search engines – besides Google

by

And maybe our email, our maps, our pictures, our meet, all “say” Google, but the keyword is “search”. And it may be the easy solution, but it is not the only one. Depending on what you are looking for…

Until 1998, if you told anyone “Google it” you would most likely hear something like this “Who and what?” (for the record, the word Google is a paraphrase of googol, equal to 10100, an ideal symbol if you want to show the amount of information you will manage).

And maybe our email, our maps, our pictures, our meet, all “say” Google, but the keyword is “search”. And it may be the easy solution, but it is not the only one. Depending on what you are looking for…

Sometimes it’s good to be a duck…

Or we do not mean Beijing, that’s always good to do. The DuckDuckGo it is one search engine which was born in 2008, but since 2010 has based its course on one of its main advantages: privacy – or privacy if you will. The duck with the green bow tie (which sounds a bit like a tongue twister) makes sure you search and find what you want, without ever storing your personal data. And of course, since it does not store it, it can not be shared with third parties.

That’s why you will not find it in DDG either search history. As for its revenue, it of course comes from ads. The difference is that they are not based on the profile you “build” through your searches, browsing or purchases, but exclusively on what you are looking for each time. If you are looking for sunglasses, you will only see ads for… you guessed it, sunglasses.

The language of relief is one

Talking about mourning is difficult – let alone managing it, both as an emotion and as a series of necessary procedures. In a situation that requires understanding, empathy and care, respond simply and responsibly to alivio.gr. The “relief” in Portuguese is much more than a search office for funeral homes in Attica. For 2 years, it is the portal that offers valid information on any procedural issues that arise, support at every stage of loss management, but also detailed answers and opinions.

How easy e.g. is to choose cremation for the person you lost? How can you identify the signs that will make you seek professional help in managing your grief? For some things, we can never be fully prepared. Let’s be at least less unprepared…

Do you know from Quora?

You can bear to answer 73 completely random questions every day;

If so, then you can handle it role of the parent of an infant. On average, there are so many questions that are born to him, and he passes them to you unfiltered – from why he has to go to school until there is a God. But questions also arise in the older ones. And for them, there is (and is) Quora. Hundreds of millions of users each month share questions – but also answers – about anything you can imagine: from pop culture and design to history and philosophy. Here, there is not a very strange, very special or very anything question.

Appetite, as long as you have time… What was e.g. the strangest piece of evidence ever in a courtroom? (hint: Florida, 1983. The rest, you know where to find it…)

TinEye what they call a picture εικόνα

If you want to find a sunset photo, the thing is simple: type “sunset”, press “search” and… voilà! Five million and some results, but also images. Many images. But what do you do when you have the image, but you do not know how much “plays” online? If you know TinEye, then you will learn -thanks to Reverse Image Search: You give the link to the image -or upload it if you have saved it- you click on Search, and in no time you have not only how many times it has been uploaded, but also on which sites you will find it. Its usefulness?

From a simple “I found an article, I saved the photo but not the link” to copyright issues. And a picture may be worth a thousand or 84.1 words – depending on your source – but in the ocean of 750 billion images online, you need a guide…
