The man says it’s a miracle of science that the iPhone is still working after being pulled from the wet, dripping river that was lost 10 months ago, covered in mud and grass.
Owen Davis, 35, from Edinburgh, was attacked by a cell phone last summer when he and his friends got into a boat while canoeing past a deer in a paddy field in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.
It was now discovered by Miguel Pachako at a depth of 20 feet in the River Wye. Miguel Pachako was walking in a canoe with his little daughter and noticed “something blue” in the river bed.
Surprisingly, Pachaco, 29, managed to join in after it dried out and asked the Facebook group on Cinder’s local bulletin board to help him find an owner.
He writes: “Found this iPhone while canoeing down the River Wye.”
“It appears to have been underwater since last August, because this was the previous date.
“I took it home, opened it up, airline dried it, and left it in a ventilation cabinet overnight to dry thoroughly.
-I loaded it this morning and I couldn’t believe my eyes. It really works.
“I hope you find an owner, so please share it.”
The screensaver featured images of men and women, displaying the date of August 13 (the day Owen lost his cell phone).
The posts have been shared more than 4,000 times on social media.
Its owner hasn’t been on social media for months, but the photo was eventually recognized by a friend of Owen’s and his fiancée Fiona Gardner, who live in Edinburgh, and is now being returned.
“I didn’t think it was good. It was full of water,” said Pachaco of Gross and Draybrook.
“But there might be something sentimental about it, so I did my best to dry it out.
“If you lose your cell phone, there are a lot of photos of the children. I want to get my cell phone back.”
I dried it the morning after it dried but still couldn’t believe it worked.
Owen said: “I was sitting in a two-seater canoe, so my partner shouldn’t have gotten up. Needless to say, we fell.
“I put the phone in my back pocket, and as soon as I was in the water I realized the phone was gone.”
He was impressed by Mr. Pacheco who made such an effort to answer the phone.
“My natural reaction is to move it to the nearest bar. I didn’t use my air compressor to dry it out and disperse it.”
“But seriously, I don’t think he’s back at work.”
According to Apple, the iPhone XS and XR models can withstand up to 1 meter of water in 30 minutes.
Obviously, the tech giant hasn’t tried to sink the device in the river for almost a year. But you’ll probably be glad to hear the positive results.
