Facebook presents the possibility for users to have up to 5 profiles in one account.

On Thursday, Facebook’s parent company Meta announced product changes that “help people personalize their experience based on their interests and relationships,” including posting different types of content to family and friends.

This move marks a major change from the “real name” requirement that the company has maintained since its inception.

Each user can still have only one Facebook account with the person’s real name, the main profile. After logging into that account, users will be able to access any additional profiles they create.

This change could be a gateway for users to semi-anonymize their identities on the world’s largest social networks.

This new change is in line with the options offered by competitors such as TikTok, Twitter and Instagram, also owned by Meta.

In that statement, Meta stated that the misrepresentation and identity policy would continue to apply to all profiles.

A Meta spokesman said the company is testing a new approach in certain countries, but declined to specify in which country.

Last year, Facebook rebranded as Meta, refocusing on creating products for virtual reality products.

This month, the company announced that it will launch a “meta account” that will allow users to log into the VR headset without a Facebook account. This feature is scheduled for August 2022.
