Things are changing for its flagships Samsung in Europe. Rumors have been intense in recent months that the South Korean giant would abandon its Exynos processors (or rather SoCs – System on Chip) for its top mobile phones in the coming years, in favor of its corresponding Snapdragon processors Qualcomm. And apparently the American company “witnessed the secret”!
As part of its financial results announcement, Qualcomm said it will be inside all of Samsung’s top mobile phones worldwide, as part of a broad agreement through 2030 that will include technology for 6G networks. Meanwhile, Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2300 chipset seems to have struggled to meet the modem’s specifications Qualcomm’s X70 5Gespecially in terms of energy efficiency.
“The way you should think about it is that Snapdragon chips will be in a range of Samsung products, like the top smartphones of the Galaxy series,” said Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon in response to a related question.
“We were at 75% of Galaxy S22s shipped globally before the deal. You have to think we’re going to be much better than this from the Galaxy S23 onwards,” he said. “You should know that we will be inside all their devices in global level”, added the Qualcomm CEO.
Therefore, Samsung reportedly decided that it is better to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for the Galaxy S23 series, in order to gain access to the best 5G modem in the US, and stop the regional fragmentation policy processors with the Exynos with which its flagships are distributed in Europe, with inferior performance.
Amon said that based on the agreement, Samsung will adopt the use of Snapdragon chipsets in other product categories as well.
