The already burdened fire-meteorological conditions in our country are expected to worsen significantly
Very high fire risk today in many areas of the country.
According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction, for today Friday July 29a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted in the following areas:
- Region of Attica (including the island of Kythira)
- Region of Central Greece (Evia, Boeotia, Fthiotida, Fokida)
- Peloponnese Region (Corinthia Region, Argolis Region, Arcadia Region, Laconia Region)
- Western Greece Region (Achaia Region, Ilia Region)
- Region of the Ionian Islands (P.E. Zakynthos)
- Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace (Evros PE including the island of Samothraki)
- North Aegean Region
- South Aegean Region (Cyclades)
At the same time, a high risk is predicted in many areas of the country.
The Map is an integral part of forest fire response planning and is issued under the responsibility of the Emergency Planning and Response Directorate.
Hot – Dry – Windy
Meanwhile, based on the latest available forecast data analyzed by the pyrometeorological team FLAME of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA) / meteo.gr, the already burdened fire-meteorological conditions in our country are expected to worsen during the two-day period Thursday – Friday, July 28 and 29.
The cause of this significant deterioration is the expected strengthening of the northerly winds in the Aegean and eastern mainland Greece, in combination with the very hot and dry conditions prevailing in our country during the last few days, and which have significantly increased the flammability of forest fuels.
Overall, the fire-meteorological conditions on Thursday 28.07.2022 and Friday 29.07.2022 are expected to be characterized by the particularly dangerous, for the occurrence and spread of forest fires, Hot – Dry – Windy type of weather.

The very high potential for wind-driven forest fires with potentially high heat loads remains in Attica, Boeotia, N and S Evia, Corinth, Argolis and Laconia.
The high potential for wind-driven wildfires with potentially high heat loads remains in Evros (including the Dadia area), Chios, and locally in Rhodopi, Fthiotida, Fokida, Ilia, Messinia, Achaia, Lesbos, and Samos.
The high potential for wind-driven forest fires remains in the Cyclades, Kasos, Karpathos and S. Crete.
