Airbnb continues to put pressure on house parties by testing new “anti-party technology” in the US and Canada.
The technology is designed to identify potentially high-risk reservations based on review history, guests’ length of stay on Airbnb, length of travel, distance to listings, or whether reservations are made on weekdays or weekends. week.
“Our primary goal is to reduce the ability of bad actors to host unauthorized parties that negatively impact our hosts, neighbors, and the communities we serve,” Airbnb said in a statement.
The company says it has been testing a similar system in Australia since October 2021 and has found it to be “very effective”.
“We have seen a 35% reduction in incidents of unauthorized parties in locations across Australia where this pilot took place.
This is becoming a permanent feature in Australia, but the company is currently testing it in the US and Canada.
Guests branded by anti-partisan technology cannot book an entire home, but can book private rooms and hotel rooms through Airbnb.
The new system is an update to the company’s “under 25” system, which has been in place since 2020. Instead of imposing an age limit, the system carefully vets guests who book locally.
In June, Airbnb permanently banned parties from its properties after first introducing a policy in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The San Francisco-based tech company reports a 44% drop in party accounts since the policy went into effect in August 2020.
It’s unclear if this feature will roll out to other countries, but it seems likely because the company has stepped up its anti-partisan stance.
