Amazon Web Services (AWS), the subsidiary company of the American technology group that offers computing cloud services (AWS cloud) where businesses and individuals keep their data, is turning Naxos into a smart island.
The company announced, last night, at a special event in Naxos, the start of the implementation of the pilot project with the aim of improving the services provided to the permanent residents and tourists of the island.
It is estimated that last August alone the island welcomed more than 145,500 visitors, a number that has exceeded 2019 levels.
But how will Amazon Web Services turn the largest island of the Cyclades into a “smart island”? The company, through the AWS cloud technology it has developed, will create applications for the digital recording of the arrivals and departures of passenger ships, as well as the transport of biological and pharmaceutical material using drones.
The aim of the project is to upgrade the infrastructure of the island, the marina, the energy network and the water management systems. This will be made possible through the development of the Internet of Things (Internet of Things), where individual systems “communicate” with each other via the fifth generation (5G) Internet.
