Artemis 1: On November 14, the new launch attempt to the Moon

The Artemis program is about the US returning to the Moon after five decades.

NASA is planning the next launch attempt of Artemis 1 for November 14, the US space agency announced today.

The Artemis program is about the US returning to the Moon after five decades.

The Artemis 1 mission will be unmanned in order to verify that the Orion capsule, atop the SLS rocket, is safe for future crew transport.

The unmanned mission to the Moon had been delayed twice, due to fuel leaks, in late August and early September.

A few weeks later, due to the threat of Hurricane Ian, NASA had removed the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket – the most powerful it had ever built – from the launch pad and moved it back to the Kennedy Space Center assembly building.

Mission officials have November 16th and 19th as alternative dates.

If the SLS rocket eventually launches on November 14, the Artemis 1 mission is expected to last a total of 25 days and conclude with the return of the Orion capsule to Earth on December 9.
