Microsoft has laid off about 1,000 employees across multiple divisions this week, Axios reported on Tuesday, citing a source, becoming the latest U.S. technology company to cut jobs or reduce hiring amid global economic slowdown.
The layoffs affected less than 1% of Microsoft’s total workforce of about 221,000 employees.
The company had said in July that a small number of positions had been eliminated and that it would increase headcount in the future.
Microsoft did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the Axios news.
Several tech companies including Meta, Twitter and Snap have slashed jobs and hiring in recent months as global economic growth slows as interest rates rise to curb inflation.
