Students from Serres won the 1st prize at the Robotics Olympiad in South Korea – Photos

The two 13-year-olds were awarded at an event at the Serres Motorway

The Mayor of Serres, Alexandros Chrysafis, awarded the world champions of the Sports Robotics section of the “M.G.S. Panserraikos”, Apollona Tselepi and Dimitra Myllis, who won first place in innovation and skills in the youth team at the IRO 2021 International Robotics Olympiad in South Korea.

Mr. Chrysafis congratulated the 13-year-old athletes from Serres for their significant success in the largest global robotics competition and awarded them honorary plaques during the event, which took place today, Saturday November 12, at the Serres Motorway.

“Apollon and Dimitra with ingenuity, perseverance and dedication created a pioneering ‘smart’ jacket of social communication and interaction and stood out among hundreds of athletes from 52 countries.

It is a victory that comes to be added to the other distinctions of the Sports Robotics department of the “M.G.S. Panserraikos”, which is the first and only official section of a sports club in Greece”, emphasized Mr. Chrysafis, who had the opportunity to learn about the operation of the “smart” jacket from its creators, Apollos Tselepis and Dimitra Myllis.

At the same time, the Mayor of Serres congratulated the director of the sports robotics department Manolis Tselepis and the coaches as well as the management of “M.G.S. Panseraikos”.

“We are very proud because in Serres we create new talents with scientific interests and knowledge, remarkable athletes and champions, who fill us with hope for the future of our country.

Because here, at the Serres Motorway, where the official organization of robot athletes INTESO is based and the first official robotics sports department in Europe was created, the heart of Greek sports robotics beats”, underlined Mr. Chrysafis and added:

“In the Municipality of Serres we support the actions related to robotic science, innovation and technological sports training and we will be next to the Serres athletes, who will take part in the International Robotics Competition in Thailand in January 2023.”

The Mayor of Serres awarded honorary diplomas to the female and male athletes of the sports robotics department, as well as to the coaches.
