Elon Musk announced that the new verification system will probably be activated next Friday, December 2.
After the fiasco caused by Twitter’s paid account verification with blue badges, Mr Elon Musk comes back dynamically with… tricolor verification.
Responding to a user’s (what else?) tweet, Twitter’s new boss said there would be a “gold badge” for companies, gray would be for verifying government agency accounts, and the existing blue badge would be for individuals, regardless whether they are celebrities or not.
Apparently learning his lesson from the blue verification debacle, Musk clarified that all verified accounts will be “validated manually” before verification is enabled. The billionaire even characterized this move as “painful, but necessary”.
The return of the feature was scheduled for November 29, but was postponed by the new boss of the social networking platform. Elon Musk announced that the new verification system will probably be activated next Friday, December 2.
Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.
Gold check for companies, gray check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.
Painful, but necessary.
