Microsoft said it will not participate in CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2022 in Las Vegas, joining a list of companies that opted out of physical presence at next month’s event, concerned about the rapid spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus .
The US software giant added that it will continue to attend CES remotely, according to an emailed statement.
Several other companies, including automaker General Motors, Google and its autonomous automotive technology company Waymo, Meta, Twitter, Lenovo, AT&T and Amazon, canceled in-person participation plans earlier this week.
CES officials said on Thursday that the event will still be held face-to-face Jan. 5-8 with “strong security measures in place,” which include vaccination requirements, mask use and availability of Covid-19 tests.
