How Facebook is secretly draining your phone battery

by

If you’ve ever noticed that your battery drains unusually quickly while using the Facebook or Messenger app on your iPhone, it might not be just a coincidence.

According to a former Meta data scientist, the company has the ability to “drain” the batteries of Android and iPhone users as part of testing the app.

In an interview with the New York Post, George Hayward claims he was fired last November because he refused to participate in certain tests for Messenger.

The application could be damaged

This is a method that allows the company that provides technologies and services-apps that someone has installed on the mobile to perform checks on those apps about how fast they run, how to load a photo, etc., without the phone’s owner knowing that this process is happening on his device.

Hayward, who filed a lawsuit against Meta but later withdrew it, said the app “could hurt someone” by draining their battery without warning.

According to Hayward’s lawsuit, this tactic could endanger cell phone owners who may find themselves in an emergency situation and need their cell phone to contact for help and not be able to to do so because the battery will have been consumed by the negative tests.

It is noted that Facebook has long been accused of “draining” the iPhone’s battery.
