A complete network of submersible bins covering most of the city will be developed in Vrilissi municipality.
At the same time, the first “greens” recycling corners, with the aim of both strengthening recycling at the source and upgrading the city in the environmental sector, as well as aesthetic improvement.
For these two projects, the cost of which amounts to 2 million euros, the municipality secured funding of 1.8 million euros from the program “Antonis Tritsis» for the network of underground bins and approximately 200,000 euros from the NSRF for the recycling corners.
Each installation point will have the capability separate screening of four streamsi.e. simple waste of the green bin, kitchen food waste of the brown bin, paper/cardboard of the yellow stream and finally plastic and other packaging materials of the blue bin.
The underground bins will be installed in ten points of the city and will be added to the four points of quadruple flow, which the municipality already has in Ascension and Eleftheria squares.
The 50 four-bin systems are estimated to replace over 500 conventional bins, freeing up valuable communal space, ensuring cleanliness and eliminating odours.
Submersible bins have a large capacity, since they compress the waste and operate with a lifting mechanism. They also have a built-in remote occupancy control system, so that the municipality’s Cleaning service is immediately informed and waste collection can be scheduled in time.
“We secured the financing of the project and do not burden the citizens in the least“, the Deputy Mayor for Environment and Cleanliness Alexis Mavragannis emphasized, among others, and then added: “With the new 40 submersible bins in ten parts of the city and the three new recycling corners, we are taking another step towards modernizing the practice of cleaning and recycling in our municipality, upgrading the aesthetics of the city. At the same time, we are preparing to immediately proceed with the expansion of the network. We free up vital public space for residents, create infrastructure for source-separated recycling, reduce waste management costs, increase green jobs and return valuable economic resources to the city».
