At the Music Hall, at an event for the screening of the documentary “Ocean with David Attenborough”, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was found by an event organized by Revive Our Ocean and National Geographic Pristine Seas, in collaboration with Cyclades PreServation Fund.
The Prime Minister and the rest of the guests were fortunate to watch yet another amazing job of a man who has dedicated his life to environmentin its beauties and its needs.
Prior to the screening, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said:
“Ladies and gentlemen, today you came here to watch an extremely interesting movie, so the last one you need is another long speech.
The film we will watch soon is at the same time a cry of anxiety but also a call for hope from a man who at 99 years old finds the power to speak with a passion for the need to protect the environment and especially the marine environment.
And I believe that we should all watch it with great care, give us strength and be able to integrate our own the basic message that is emitted by the film, which is nothing more than the return of the sea, the oceans in any effort to protect them.
Tomorrow I will have the pleasure of being with some of you in Amorgos, to greet, present and discuss with local fishermen on the “Amorgorama” initiative.
An initiative that came from the bottom up, from the fishermen themselves, who realized something that scientists can already be known, that by protecting their own seas, by limiting fisheries, they can not only protect the sea, but to improve them and improve them and improve them and improve them and improve them and improve them. They love so much.
The Greek government is fully committed to the goal of protecting the marine environment. We have already announced and put in public consultation the first plans to create two major marine parks in the Ionian Islands and in the Southern Cyclades, which we want to institutionalize as soon as possible, always in cooperation – and Maria is right to say that.
It is, therefore, worth the message of this film and the message of “Amorgorama” to diffuse throughout Greece. Our goal is what today is the exception, it is the only example of being able to multiply. But this will not be done without systematic information and without your own contribution. And I am primarily referring to civil society, non -governmental organizations.
Know that in the government you will find a consistent helper. I do not underestimate the difficulties, I know very well the danger that there is protected areas only on paper. But I want you to know that I personally remain completely committed to government goals as they have been presented.
And I am sure that with your own help we will not only be able to find ourselves at the forefront of Europe on the issues of protecting our seas, but mainly to draw a new model, a new path to local communities, our islands, especially for our small islands, and a more optimistic future.
Thank you very much“
