The increase recorded in 2021 in terms of the volume of digital transactions with the State is exponential, according to data from the Interoperability Center of the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Public Administration of the Ministry of Digital Government. Specifically, from January 1 to December 31 of last year, the systems of the State either provided digital services to the citizens, or “spoke to each other” a total of 566,962,980 times.
This year the number is six times higher than the corresponding number of 2020, when digital transactions amounted to 94 million, recording a large increase compared to 2019 and 2018, when the number reached 34 and 8.8 million respectively. . More than 566 million digital transactions translate into avoiding a corresponding number of citizens’ visits to public services. This eliminates unnecessary bureaucracy, saving time, costs and energy for the citizens, but also resources for the Administration.
It is reminded that in digital transactions are added:
- digital services, ie the identification of citizens in an information system using Taxisnet codes, and
- the interoperabilities, that is, the exchange of information between services and registries of the State without any action on the part of the citizen other than the granting of his consent.
In more detail:
- Regarding the use of digital services, an extremely large increase was observed through gov.gr. The number of authentications using Taxisnet codes for 2021 amounted to 265,111,222. At the same time, the citizens were served another 4,520,649 times using web banking codes. Adding the two numbers, the total digital services totaled 269,631,871. The corresponding number in 2020 amounted to 57 million.
- The number of interoperability calls for automated data exchange between the public information systems amounted to 297,331,109. The corresponding number in 2020 amounted to 37 million.
The Minister of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated: “The number of digital transactions has a direct impact on the daily life of every citizen, as this way we measure how many queues he was able to avoid. For 2021, a year of pandemic, this number for every adult citizen translates into about 60 public service visits that did not have to be made. The exponential curve of recent years in digital transactions reflects the exponential leap that the state is making in the digital transformation, focusing on gov.gr. Accordingly, the great response of the citizens shows how strong was the demand of the people for this digital change. Every day, with the changes we are implementing, Greece covers an increasing part of the distance that separated it from other countries. We want to maintain this progress, implementing our design with even greater dynamics and speed “.
The General Secretary of Information Systems of Public Administration, Demosthenes Anagnostopoulos, stated: “The drastic increase of interoperability between public systems fulfills a key goal set by our Ministry in the last two years. The interconnection of registers is the necessary complement to digital services, so that they are simpler to use and more functional for citizens. This is an ongoing process, which is also supported by the respective upgrades of our systems. In this way, we close the backlog of the country with the past, facilitating the daily life of all citizens “.
