Popular Japanese actors Jo Otagiri and Ten Yamasaki co-starred in an eye-catching advertisement for Sagami Railway Company, Ltd., or Sōtetsu a private railway company in Japan, in the role of father and daughter.

The touching ad, called “Father and Daughter” it’s a 12 year story about a parent and daughter’s relationship, set as they ride a train on the Sotetsu line, with the years passing from elementary school to university, with the two generations becoming estranged, and finally reconnecting, until the girl continues alone her the trip of a lifetime.

Effects experts in the West, who saw the eye-catching ad… were somehow fooled into thinking that the dozens… Otagiri it was a CG (computer graphics) effect. However, how the scene was filmed testifies to the truth which is different:

Besides Otagiri and Yamasaki, a total of 50 people who play the father and daughter ages 6 to 46 appear in the video as the years go by!

More than 200 people were needed to shoot the scene in the fake carriages, with the computer effects used only for the surroundings outside the supposed train.

Odagiri appeared as the ‘first father’ at the start, finished his make-up in just 10 seconds and reappeared as the ’25th father’ at the end of the touching video.
