VIPER will be NASA’s first robotic moon rover to be sent on a mission to the lunar South Pole, in order to travel to permanently shadowed regions and unravel the mysteries of the Moon’s water.

VIPER will be the first rover to measure the location and concentration of water ice and other resources, which could eventually be harvested to support human exploration on the Moon, Mars – and beyond!

Nasa is offering a rare opportunity to citizens of the world to send their name to the moon!

“Our VIPER rover will explore the lunar South Pole, studying shadow craters and searching for frozen water—and you can add your name to fly with VIPER,” says the US space agency.

Anyone who wishes to send their name to the Moon only needs to fill out a Nasa form electronically – HERE – with their first name, last name and a pin of their choice, in order to receive a “boarding pass”. Ready to lift off?
