A dynamic presence was given to this year’s international exhibition of digital technology and innovation Beyond2024 held in Thessaloniki on April 25-27, the company Vantage Towers, which co-organized with TILEMATIKI ICT and the support of TECHNOPOLIS SA an event on the role of technology, networks 5G and artificial intelligence in dealing with the effects of the climate crisis and especially in the field of prevention in cases of forest fires and natural disasters, in the development of innovation networks and Incubators as well as in digital health and telemedicine.

In the opening speech, Athanasios Exarchos, President & CEO, Vantage Towers, emphasized that: “Beyond the company’s main pursuit which is the best connectivity in every corner of the country and the support of the digital transformation of the Greek economy, Vantage Towers gives particular importance in promoting environmentally friendly solutions both for its network and for its customers. The President of Technopolis Thessaloniki and TIF-Helexpo, Tassos Tzikas, emphasized the goal of promoting the country as a technology and innovation hub, as well as Thessaloniki as a pioneer in the field of technology. It is particularly encouraging that technology incubators are spreading in Greece and boosting innovation and the country’s GDP.

Anastasios Yovas, Senior Account & BD Manager of Vantage Towers, in a discussion that followed, highlighted the key role that the company can play with its infrastructure in civil protection as its network has the potential to act as a large sensor for a crowd applications.

In particular, the signing of a strategic collaboration between Raymetrics and Vantage Towers for the adaptation of the LiDAR system for the early detection of forest fires in the Vantage Towers sites, was announced by Thanos Gavrilis, Project Developer & head of fire detection systems at RAYMETRICS. He also mentioned that Raymetrics has already installed two detection stations in the peri-urban forest of Sheikh Sou in Thessaloniki and is participating in a similar project in the Region of Western Greece.

In his intervention, the president of TELEMATIKI ICT Giorgos Calandreas referred to the statistical data of the fires of 2023 and that “for every 1 euro we invest in prevention, we save 10 euros from the cost of treatment. It is very expensive to develop these phenomena and very cheap to prevent – and technology can help with this.”

The creation of innovation incubators in collaboration with the Municipalities of Skopelos and Gortynia was announced by Michalis Havouzis, CEO of TECHNOPOLIS SA, emphasizing that local government can play an important role in enhancing development.

Petros Zisimopoulos, Senior ICT Service Manager of NOVA ICT presented the numerous projects in which the company participates in the health sector and emphasized the importance of internal mobile coverage in hospitals as a necessary condition for advanced smart hospital services (Smart 5G Hospital) and telemedicine.
