“The idea of ​​creating a domestic game console is being discussed,” Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Vasily Spak said on Wednesday at the “Digital Industry of Industrial Russia” (CIPR) conference.

“The idea of ​​creating a domestic game console in the Russian Federation is being discussed, the discussion is ongoing, we are in contact with the industry community and are collecting feedback on who has what resources to create it,” he said, according to TASS .

Spak noted that at the same time, the process of creating Russian video games should continue, so that “to have something to play on these consoles». The Russian deputy minister added that this is “serious, comprehensive work”, as games are one of the tools for educating young people.

He also noted the importance of cooperation with developers from “friendly countries”, as under the sanctions, most foreign games released on the Russian market they will not be compatible with the home console.

At the end of March, the Russian president Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian government to consider the issue of production organization tabletop and portable game consoles. The deadline is the 15th of June 2024.

In April and early May, sales of game consoles in Russia increased by 51%. The most popular consoles were PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
