It is smart, safe and above all “independent”. The first Greek autonomous vehicle was manufactured by IMET/EKETA and is ready to “premiere” in Trikala in the coming days.

With special software, it behaves like a good guide

With 12 sensors on the roof, one in front and 23 telecommunication antennas as well as special software that “behaves” as a very good driver, the autonomous vehicle of IMET, licensed by the competent ministry for the city of Trikala, it moves autonomously on the road, it perceives and reacts to its environment and can develop up to 130 km per hour, but is legally limited to 25 km per hour for safety reasons. At the same time, it is as safe as conventional vehicles and as the Director of IMET and Vice President of EKETA Dr. Evangelos Bekiaris “we estimate that with this technology accidents will be reduced to 1/10 of what they are today”, because he strictly obeys the KOK.

IMET/EKETA (Institute of Sustainable Mobility and Transport Networks of the National Center for Research and Technological Development-NPID), based in Thermi, Thessaloniki, is the main research body in the field of transport in Greece, and one of the most important and most recognized hubs of technology and pan-European know-how and is under the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GRET) of the Ministry of Development and Investments.
