The United Statesh Britain and the European Union are expected to sign the first legally binding international treaty on the use Artificial Intelligence (AI, TN), is reported in today’s Financial Times article.

The three are set to sign the Council of Europe Convention on Artificial Intelligence today, according to the British newspaper, which adds that the convention has been in the works for more than two years by more than 50 countries, including Canada, Israel, the Japan and Australia.

The USA “They are committed to ensuring that AI technologies support respect for human rights and democratic values” and see “the significant added value of the Council of Europe in this space,” a senior Biden administration official told the paper.

“It is the first (agreement) that is truly globally binding and also brings together a very diverse group of countries,” British technology minister Peter Kyle said, according to the report.

The Council of Europe’s framework treaty on Artificial Intelligence, which addresses issues of human rights, democracy and the rule of law, was drawn up by the Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI).

CAI finalized the draft contract in March. The convention was subsequently adopted on 17 May by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and is due to open for signature today, 5 September, in Vilnius.
