The Ministry of Digital Governance, with the aim of strengthening the digital transformation of the Region of Thessaly and its adaptation to the new digital era, provides the appropriate technological tools and services to serve citizens and businesses more efficiently.

In this direction, the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, and the Governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas, signed today, October 18, a memorandum of cooperation, in the building of the Region of Thessaly.

In the broader planning of the Ministry of Digital Governance is the provision of digital tools to all Local Government Organizations (OTAs) based on the real needs of local communities. In this way, cities will become “smart” and sustainable, upgrading the standard of living of citizens.

After the signing, peripheries.gov.gr was presented, a platform through which the central management of digital services for the Regions will be achieved through gov.gr, with respect to the administrative autonomy of each Region.

Mr. Papastergiou stated that “today is a particularly happy day for me as it combines two of my weaknesses, Thessaly and technology. Thessaly’s digital transition contributes to strengthening its extroversion and exploiting its comparative advantages. We want to achieve the same for every region and municipality of our country, as for the digital transformation of the state to be successful, the active participation of the Local Government is required. Emerging technologies create new opportunities and as the Ministry of Digital Governance, we provide local authorities with the tools they need to offer more efficient services to their citizens, in order to improve their daily lives. The strategic choice of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is to “run” in a coordinated manner the reforms required for a development model that removes regional inequalities and gives the opportunity to every corner of Greece to participate in the new digital era».

For his part, Mr. Kouretas emphasized that “we are happy today to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the minister Dimitris Papastergiou, on the subject of the digital upgrade and cooperation of the Region of Thessaly with the Ministry of Digital Governance. I think this memorandum will be multi-layered. We will start with a project that we have discussed with the Minister and it is very important, it concerns the digitization of the technical services so that we can monitor the progress of the projects. It is something that should have been done many years ago in the Region of Thessaly. It is very useful and positive that we will proceed to other collaborations in a short time. I believe that in the digital age there is no activity that we cannot collaborate on. I am happy to work with the minister, who is known for his open mind and I will take advantage of that».
