The head of global affairs of Meta Platforms, which owns the social media Facebook and Instagram, gave an answer to Russia. Nick Clegg clarified that the amended rules will apply only in Ukraine.
He said that (Meta) policies “focus on protecting human rights in speech as an expression of self-defense as a reaction in a military invasion in their country “. Clegg clarified that the company does not have “No dispute with the Russian people” and that there was no change in the hate speech “concerning the Russian people.”
He also noted that the changes are temporary and under evaluation. Yesterday, Meta announced that it was allowing users on its platforms to make calls in resistance against Russians and Russian soldiers when they talked about the invasion of Ukraine, a change in the company’s hate speech policy.
The Russian prosecutor’s office asked the Russian court to characterize Meta, the parent company of Facebook, as an “extremist organization”, the Interfax news agency reported on Friday.
