Russia’s “other war”: The country is receiving a wave of cyber attacks due to Ukrainian

by

Another war, online this timefaces Russia because of its invasion of Ukraine.

Russian government websites are facing unprecedented cyber attacks and technical efforts are being made to filter foreign Internet traffic, the TASS news agency reported on Thursday, citing the Ministry of Digital Technology.

Russian government agencies and state-owned companies have been targeted for Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the websites of the Kremlin, major carrier Aeroflot and Sberbank among those experiencing interruptions or temporary access problems in recent weeks. The ministry is working to adapt to the new conditions, he said, as cyber attacks escalate.

“If previously “their power at peak times reached 500 gigabytes, then it is now at 1 terabyte,” the ministry said. “It is two to three times more powerful than the most serious incidents of this kind that have been reported in the past.”

As Russia increasingly isolates itself from global financial systems and supply chains, the government has proposed a series of measures to support the IT sector, inter alia.

Technology companies will have access to preferential tax and lending terms, and the digital ministry has previously suggested to Russian IT companies that they discuss a gradual transfer of technical support data with foreign companies.

Citing draft government documents, Interfax reported late Wednesday that the Ministry of Digital Technology had proposed allocating 14 billion rubles (1$ 34.30 million) to support IT companies in the form of grants.
