How many lives could we save if we could catch up under the influence of alcohol and fatigue before the vehicle even started? The answer to this question was the reason to be founded by a group of young people, Safe Start, who created one smart steering wheel that can make the difference.

As stated in their announcement, through their participation in contest Ja Greecethey decided to develop a solution that would help prevent traffic accidents, incorporating cutting -edge technology into the way we drive. 25% of fatal traffic accidents worldwide relate to alcohol consumption.

This means that about 1.35 million People lose their lives every year because of drunken drivers. In Greece, the data is equally alarming: the 30% of car accident deaths are associated with alcoholwith about 1,000 victims per year to be added to statistics.

Smart steering wheel with double technology of detection

Its basic product Safe Start It’s a smart steering wheel, equipped with two advanced sensors analyzing the driver’s condition before and during driving. Operates with sensors heart rateplaced on the steering wheel handles and They measure the pulses hisdHoly. If a sharp drop in pulses or signs of fatigue, the system activates vibrant notifications and sound signals to reinstates driver’s attention.

It also has alcohol detection sensors, located in a distinctive accessory Behind the steering wheel, at right side. Before starting the engine, the sensors analyze the breathing of driver. If alcohol is detected above the permitted limit, the system blocks the start of the car and alerts the user. Safe Start’s smart steering wheel combines two technologies which until now were operating separately. In this way, it protects not only from driving under the influence of alcohol, but also from the dangers of excessive fatigue and lack of road concentration.
