Depicting a blooming flower Google celebrates Mother’s Daytoday Sunday. Google makes a dedication to moms all over the world, showing Doodle a big flower to look at two smaller ones as they bloom.

Mother’s Day or Mother’s Day is an annual feast in honor of the mother, and motherhood, as well as the influence of mothers on society. It is celebrated on different days around the world, most commonly in March or May. In Greece and in many other countries, it is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This year is May 11th.

According to Wikipedia, the modern holiday was established in the 20th century in the United States and comes from the English and American movement of women. Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis for the first time in 1865 a movement named Mothers Friendships Day and meetings named Mothers Day Meetings, in which mothers exchanged views and experiences.[3] In 1870, Julia Ward Howe organized an event of a peaceful gathering of mothers with the Peace and Motherhood slogan with the aim of not being sent to war.

In Greece, the Mother’s Day was associated with the feast of Ypapanti (February 2). Then the Orthodox Church celebrates Our Lady with Joseph who go to Jesus 40 days in the temple for blessing.

The parallel celebration of Ypapanti on Mother’s Day began in 1929. Since the 1960s, the celebration along with the Ypapandis diminished and reinforced the celebration on the second Sunday of May.
