According to Juan de Lara- the four-year study of which was published in the journal The Annual of the British School at Athens- inside, the imposing temple of the goddess Athena on the Acropolis was dimly enlightened to cause a spy, divine awe.

According to archaeologymag.com, on the day, the golden -ivory statue of the goddess Athena was strategically illuminated by the sunlight that was entering the Eastern Gate, while the rest of the temple was maintained dark, creating an impressive, deliberate visual illusion.
