From “Armageddon” to “The Next Day”, Hollywood has invested in humanity destruction films, presenting many different scenarios – with the threats coming mainly from space.

In fact, if there was a global revelation, what could eradicate life on earth?

Scientists believe they may eventually have the answer – and includes a horrible death.

In a new study, researchers from the Institute of Planetary Science and the University of Bordeaux predict that the Earth could collide with a passing celestial body, eg meteorite, and get off our solar system.

In this scenario, according to the Daily Mail, without the light and heat of the sun, all living beings on our planet – including people – would be frozen to death.

The good news…

Fortunately, the chances of this happen are very small.

Out of the next five billion years, the possibility of the Earth being out of trajectory from a passing star is about 1 in 500, according to researchers.

“We find a 0.3% chance that Mars will be lost due to conflict or ejecting and a 0.2% chance that the Earth will be involved in a planetary conflict or erupted,” the team wrote in its study.
