Thessaloniki will also host this year European night of the researcherwith the Center for the Dissemination of Science and Museum of Technology – NOISIS actively participating in the largest pan -European event dedicated to science and research. The event, which takes place on the last Friday of each September in many European cities, aims to acquire the public with researchers and their work. This year’s Researcher Night is part of the Horizon program entitled Pico (Physics for all) and will take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, in NOISIS, which acts as a co -organizer. The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) is coordinated, while the public will have the opportunity to find out about physics and astronomy issues. The event will be held simultaneously in four countries – Greece, Italy, France and Spain – with the participation of leading European scientific agencies such as the National Observatory of Athens and the Greek -German Education, the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) Centre National de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) from France and Institut de Fisica d’A altes Energies (IFAE) from Spain. In Thessaloniki, the Pico Researcher Night will take place in NOISIS with a multitude of activities, including screenings on a planetarium, cosmopolitan theater, simulator and exhibitions of the Museum of Technology, with a 50% discount on normal individual tickets. The main theme of the event, aimed at all ages, focuses on the applications of physics in everyday life and the modern discoveries of astronomy. In Greece, the Pico Project coordinates parallel events in Athens (Athens Observatory, Penteli – Visitor Center of the Athens Observatory, Thissio – Greek -German Education, Pallini), as well as at the Corinthian Corinthian Observatory.

Actions and Investigations of Research Groups

The Pico Researcher Night in NOISIS will run from 17:00 to 23:00 and includes a wealth of activities for all ages: interactive experiments and simulations, impressive demonstrations, creative activities for children, books and gifts, as well as Astroparti for observing the planet. The activities are organized by research teams and laboratories of the Department of Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, such as the Groups of gravitational waves, relativistic astrophysics, exoplanic systems and astronomy, theoretical engineering and astrodynamics, nanotechnology, Atlas (CERN), Physics, Physics Biomedical applications. In addition, there are five AUTH student groups with interactive experiments and demonstrations (ASAT, BEAM/ASTRO, PATH, Spacedot, Vroom). The Physics Department will also present its undergraduate and postgraduate programs, informing its career opportunities. At 19: 00-20: 00, in the Central Amphitheater of NOISIS, European Physical Society President and Professor at King’s College London, Mary Sakellariadou, will give a speech on the topic on “Remembering the universe!”addressed to a public over 15 years. The evening observation will follow the sunset of the sun, using portable telescopes of the AUTH Observatory and the Thessaloniki Astronomy Group (OPA). For more information on the Pico Project, interested parties can visit the website https://picoproject.gr/, while the researcher’s evening’s schedule in Thessaloniki is available at https://picoject.gr/thessaloniki/. The day before, on Thursday, September 25, there will be distance activities such as a Virgo experiment, the sun observation and a night observation with telescopes of three observations. The relevant program and monitoring links are available at https://picoproject.gr/live-events/.
