Google “smart” glasses translate with real-time subtitles (video)

by

THE Google present a pair of “smart” glasses augmented reality with a built-in computer, which show in real-time the translation of a conversation in real time.

The glasses, which are currently anonymous and do not appear to have a camera, are the second effort of the American company after a decade. In 2012 he introduced Google Glass which had an “exotic” appearance and with their camera they could videotape what users saw, provoking a storm of reactions due to concerns about invasion of privacy.

The new glasses, which presented only on video, which featured subtitling translations of the conversations into English, Chinese and Spanish, was just one of several future products the company unveiled during its annual Google I / O event, according to Reuters and the Guardian. The release date of the glasses was not given nor was it confirmed that this time, in fact, they do not have a camera.

The company executive Eddie Changreferring to the glasses, said: “We are working on a technology that allows us to break down language barriers, taking years of research on Google Translate and transferring them to glasses». He described the possibility of glasses as “subtitles for the world”.

Google also introduced a tablet that will be released in 2023 and a smartwatch that will hit the market this fall. So far, the company’s activities in the field of hardware and products (hardware) remain small in terms of market share worldwide, but with an upward trend.

The new Pixel tablet marks a turning point, as Google left the market three years ago, having sold only 500,000 of its own tablets, according to research firm IDC. The new Pixel Watch will not be compatible with Apple iPhones and will target users other than Google Fitbit.

Also, the company presented the new smaller and cheaper “Smart” mobile Pixel 6a. The new Android smartphone, which will be released on July 28, has a 6.1-inch screen, recycled aluminum case, 6GB memory, 128GB storage and two 12-megapixel cameras. The release of the most advanced smartphone Pixel 7 and Pixel Pro will follow in the fall, shortly after the new operating Android 13 that will be released as a free upgrade.

In addition, the company introduced the new Pixel Buds Pro Bluetooth headsets, also on the market from July 28, which feature artificial intelligence algorithms to improve sound and avoid noise. They can be connected to two devices at the same time (eg smartphone for calling and laptop for music).
