Cyprus: Foreign Minister’s steps in Tehran for the Cypriot navy in the occupied Greek tankers

The intense worry of the incident that took place yesterday, Friday 27 May in the Persian Gulf, where two Greek-flagged oil tankers were seized in international waters from Iranian Armed Forcesexpresses the ministry Of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.

According to a relevant announcement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus is in continuous contact and coordination with the Greek authorities for the management of the whole issueincluding its consular dimension.

Specifically, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Tehran proceeds to steps to the Iranian authorities for an immediate solution to the whole issue. At the same time, the Cypriot authorities contacted family of the Cypriot sailor with which they will remain in open communication.

Additionally, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus in Tehran has requested in the form of an urgent meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran to receive explanations and additional information about the incident, to be informed about the situation of the crew and specifically the Cypriot citizen and to request the immediate end of the hostage situation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus condemns the attack to Greek tankers, which is a violation of international law as well as the rules of international navigation and calls for the immediate release of ships and crew.
