Eurovision winners sold the trophy to give money to the Ukrainian army

The pop band Kalush Orchestra that won this year’s Eurovision Song Contestearlier in the month raised $ 900,000 (837,180 euros) for Ukraine’s armed forces fighting the Russian invasion by selling the competition trophy.

The band won Eurovision with the song “Stefania” which caused a wave of public support and an emotional victory, which was welcomed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

The members of the band sold yesterday, Sunday, the crystal microphone they wonin an auction held on Facebook, starring Ukrainian TV presenter Sergi Pritula.

The money raised will be used for the purchase by the Ukrainian Armed Forces of the PD-2 unmanned aerial system. One unit of the system includes three drones and a control station, Pritula said during the auction.

Over the weekend, Ukrainian forces came under heavy artillery fire as they repulsed Russian efforts to occupy Sheverodonetsk, the largest city still controlled by Ukraine in eastern Luhansk.
