Those who have been infected by smallpox of monkeys they can isolated in their homeas long as they do not show serious symptoms and follow the measures by limiting their close contact with other people, according to the latest instructions published today by the British Health Insurance Service (UKHSA), in an effort to reduce cases in the country.

To date, more than 300 suspected and confirmed cases of monkey pox have been identified since early May, a usually mild illness that is transmitted through close contact and causes flu-like symptoms as well as skin lesions. Most cases were found in Europe and not in countries in Central and West Africa where the virus is endemic. They are also not related to travel to these areas.

Scientists are trying to explain why this unusual increase in cases.

The UKHSA said today that those who are infected should avoid contact with other people until the skin lesions have healed. They should also avoid sexual intercourse as soon as the first symptoms appear. Although there is no evidence that monkey pox is transmitted through mucous secretions, it is recommended for those who have been infected. use condoms for eight weeks after infectionfor precautionary reasons.

The risk of transmission is higher if someone has direct contact with someone who suffers from monkey pox. Overall, however, the risk to the population remains low, according to Ruth Milton, a senior UKHSA adviser.
