Erdogan’s Zelensky Communication After Putin – Aim for Safe Grain Export Corridor

by

Recep Tayyip Erdogan had contact with Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday after his contacts with him earlier. Vladimir Putin.

In a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, the Turkish president discussed the war in Ukraine, the ongoing peace talks and the importance of creating safe corridors.

“Turkey has made every effort to continue negotiations between Ukraine and Russia and is ready to provide more support, including mediation,” Tayyip Erdogan told Zelensky, according to a statement from Turkey’s Communications Directorate.

Erdogan also said his country attaches great importance to creating a safe corridor for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products, such as cereals, by sea.

Since the start of the war on February 24, Russia has cut off Ukraine’s exports by “blocking” the Black Sea. The cessation of exports has led to higher food prices worldwide and fears of shortages.

Referring to a possible observatory for Ukrainebased in Istanbul, Erdogan said Turkey has a positive view of joining such a mechanism with the participation of Ukraine, Russia and the UN.
