THE Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit on June 8 Turkeyaccompanied by military delegationto discuss the creation of “safe sea lanes” for the transport of Ukrainian cerealsannounced today the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu.
“Lavrov will arrive in Turkey on June 8 together with a military delegation to discuss, among other things, the creation of safe corridors for the transportation of grain. “It’s the most important issue.” said the Turkish Foreign Minister, who is seeking “the establishment of a corridor surveillance center in Istanbul”, speaking to the Turkish news agency Anadolu.
Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu did not specify what form the monitoring of the corridors will take, nor the exact role of Turkey.
The Turkish Foreign Minister also told Anadolu that he was cooperating with the United Nations an agreement is sought to establish a maritime corridor in the Black Sea, but differences between Moscow and Kyiv remain. He added that the UN has proposed the creation of a joint maritime monitoring mechanism and that Turkey is open to the idea.
Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu added that Moscow is calling for some Western sanctions to be lifted insurance companies, as ships involved in the planned naval network will be hit, while Ukraine does not want Russian warships to approach the port of Odessa.
THE Russian President Vladimir Putin said yesterday ready to work with Turkey on free movement of goods in the Black Sea, including cereals from Ukraine, during a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to Putin, “the Russian side is ready to facilitate the smooth passage of goods, in coordination with the Turkish partners. “This also applies to the export of grain from Ukrainian ports.”
