A federal civil rights proceeding against former police officer Derek Sean, who was convicted of killing George Floyd on Tuesday by two Minneapolis residents who used excessive force to kill Floyd.

According to another proceeding, John Pope Jr. and Zoya Code allege that Sean knelt on both their necks in 2017, just like a former police officer killed George Floyd.

The Pope was 14 years old when he said he used his unrelenting power when Sean responded to reports of domestic disturbances. When Sean arrived, he entered the Pope’s bedroom. There the Pope lay on the ground using his cell phone.

“Sean ran up to the Pope and hit him over the head with a big flashlight multiple times. I knocked Poppy to the ground, the same tactic I used on George Floyd,” the proceeding said.

The second case alleges that Sean used excessive force against the cord after attempting to strangle his mother with a dress extender. Sean was accused of hitting his head on the ground and his knees around his neck.

Papa and Code are black and Sean is white. Both allege racism and violation of civil rights in court. They also say the city knew he had a record for cheating but never stopped him and was able to stay in office until he killed Floyd in 2020…

Floyd was a 46-year-old black man suspected of using counterfeit bills. He was killed in May 2020 when Shawnee knelt on his neck looking at three other police officers.

The horrific video of the death has sparked protests across the country. Sean was sentenced to 22-1/2 years in prison after being convicted of murder last year. He also pleaded guilty in federal court to violating Floyd’s civil rights.

The criminal charges against the Pope and the Code were eventually dropped. Its proceedings also name the city of Minneapolis as a defendant.

“The case involving John Pop and Zoya Cody is alarming. The Minneapolis District Attorney looks forward to negotiating with the plaintiffs on these two issues and reaching a reasonable settlement.”
