On the way home from school, a girl was attacked by an e-scooter driver.

Six-year-old Sophia Bastion was attacked by an electric car at Wyndham Spencer Academy on the last day before the May 27 midpoint and will use a wheelchair or crutches for the next eight weeks.

My 10-year-old brother Cain also got his hands wet during the incident when the oncoming bicyclist fell.

His mother, Lisa Bastion, a few meters before the couple, only understood what happened when Sophia screamed after the crash.

He said the cyclist immediately apologized to his family but then fled the scene.

Police are investigating and requesting more information.

Lisa, 35, said: he [the rider] Go straight with the children, fly,

-Looking back, the rider was on Cain and Sophia was on the other side of the road. She had never had an incident on this road and Sophia was screaming.

On the left, a 6-year-old Caucasian girl with a wide smile and short brown hair looks at the camera. To the right is a Google Maps view of Derbyshire Road showing the red bus.

Mother Lisa claimed the female rider said “Oh, I’m sorry” before leaving after the incident (Photo: BPM/Google Maps)

“The rider came out of nowhere and said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry,’ he didn’t stick around.

“He got back on the scooter and off he went. It didn’t matter how hard he hit it, he was accelerating and he didn’t see where he was going.”

Liza took Sophia to a nearby post office, called 111, and then her partner took her to the Royal Derby Hospital when Sophia was having trouble walking.

He added that when Sophia experiences a change, she wakes up crying at night.

Liza said: Sophia has a nightmare and falls asleep. I understand that she is crying, so I think she may need counseling to help her. That’s too bad for a 6 year old.

“He was a happy kid, always very active and always running around. He’s not a sitting person because he’s bored. That’s frustrating for him.”

The family is also considering another way to go to school and the academy plans to help Sophia study in a wheelchair.

The number of electric scooter accidents rose significantly in Derbyshire last year, with 19 reported in 2021, just three compared to the previous year.

It is illegal to ride a privately owned scooter on public roads, sidewalks, or bike lanes, but you can rent a scooter on 30 sidewalks (including derby) that are subject to government testing.

Cars are still opposed to charity, but the British National Federation of the Blind (NFBUK) is calling for a ban on e-scooters due to publicly advertised risks to the young, elderly and vulnerable.

Sarah Gayton, NFBUK Street Access Campaign Coordinator, said:

“E-scooters are unregulated and can invade any pedestrian area, and vulnerable pedestrians such as infants and the elderly can be hit or injured by trampling on the sidewalk. There is an increased risk of being frightened or frightened.

“We have been on a number of rental scooters across the UK and seen them being moved on the pavement with government support. This is because they are legal. It also shows that safe management is not possible.”

Police must step up their efforts to get rid of all illegal e-scooters from the public roads of Derby and Derbyshire.

Liza described the bicyclist involved in the crash with Sophia as being about 18 years old, wearing a black hat, three-quarter length leggings, tan skin and black hair.

A police spokesman was contacted on Saturday 28 May when it was reported that two children had been injured in the collision in Derby the day before.

“The girl and boy are said to have been walking with an adult on Harvey Road between Wyndham Elementary School and the Post Office when they collided with an electronic scooter driven by a woman.
