Marriott International says it intends to suspend all operations in Russia during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
After Vladimir Putin began his invasion, the company closed its Moscow office in March and stopped investing in Russia.
However, 22 hotels in the country are operated by third parties and remain open as many Western companies have decided to break the association.
On the 100th day of the war in Ukraine, Marriott International issued a statement to suspend all operations in Russia.
“We have concluded that newly announced regulations in the United States, United Kingdom and the European Union will make it impossible for Marriott to continue operating or franchising hotels in the Russian market,” the company said in a statement. ..
Marriott said winding down operations in Russia is a “complex” process and it will continue to take care of its domestic partners.
He said he is working at the Ukrainian and Russian Marriotts to find people outside the two warring countries.
“We continue to work with peers and millions of people around the world to end the violence and begin the path to peace,” the network added.
Marriott has joined other Western companies that have decided to close their stores in Russia.
Starbucks temporarily closed its national coffee shop in March, but decided to pull out entirely after 15 years.
Last month, McDonald’s announced a full withdrawal from Russia due to the “humanitarian crisis” in Ukraine.
The fast food chains announced on May 20 that they had sold nearly 850 restaurants to Alexander Gobar, a Russian billionaire.
