Germany: Only with vaccination certificate or negative test on public transport

by

From Wednesday, November 24, access to businesses and trains will be available only to those who have either a vaccination or recovery certificate or a negative coronavirus test. The aim of this measure is to reduce the fourth wave of the pandemic. The regulation will be valid until March 19, 2022 and can be extended for another three months.

Up to 25,000 fines for offenders

With regard to workplaces, employees are required to show the employer the certificate of either vaccination or recovery. If they do not have either, they should have a negative coronavirus test. Private and public sector employers are required to check and record it daily. In addition, they will have to pay for two tests a week for the employees. One extra test per week is paid for by the state. If more is needed, the employee will have to pay out of pocket. The regulation also applies to people who for medical reasons can not be vaccinated.

For those who do not work because they do not have any of the three certificates, salary cuts can be imposed, and in the latter case they can even be fired. Both employers and employees who violate this regulation pay a fine of up to 25,000 euros.

Checks on trains

As for the trains, the German Railways (Deutsche Bahn) announced that as of today, sample checks are carried out either by the train inspectors or by the company’s security staff. Passengers who do not have any of the required certificates will have to get off at the next stop. The same regulation applies to intercity bus lines.
