US and South Korean troops launched eight ballistic missiles launched by North Korea the day before into the sea.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the fire exercise involved eight missiles from an Army tactical missile system launched into South Korean waters over 10 minutes.

The United States and South Korea said their goal was to demonstrate their ability to respond quickly and accurately to North Korean attacks.

South Korean troops found that North Korea launched eight short-range missiles over 35 minutes from at least four different locations, the western and eastern coastal areas, and two inland areas north of Pyongyang.

This is North Korea’s 18th missile test in 2022.

The United States and South Korea say North Korea is preparing for its first nuclear test since September 2017.

Prime Minister Kim Jong Un wants to demonstrate North Korea’s status as a nuclear power.

The test came after US President Joe Biden wrapped up his trip to South Korea and Japan, where he reaffirmed the country’s commitment to protecting both allies.

If the missiles continue, the United States has promised more international sanctions on North Korea (Photo: AP).

North Korean state media have yet to comment on Sunday’s launch.

In the past, North Korea has condemned joint military exercises and has often opposed them with its own missile exercises.

However, the United States has promised to impose more international sanctions if North Korea conducts a nuclear test.

Russia and China argued that the United States would focus on resuming negotiations with North Korea and rejected a US-sponsored resolution that would impose additional sanctions on North Korea.

However, Kim Jong-un has so far rejected the Biden administration’s proposal for open negotiations.
