A 6-year-old boy who nearly drowned in a hotel pool in Mallorca has died in hospital.
Corey Oh’s in north Belfast was taken to hospital “in critical condition” from a four-star hotel in the SaComa complex on Thursday after he was revived by an ambulance team poolside.
He died yesterday afternoon at the Son Espase Hospital in Palma, the island’s capital, after being treated in the intensive care unit.
Following Corey’s death, the Spanish National Police began investigating the case.
A spokesman for the Parma national police said they were still awaiting details and could not comment at this time.
As is known, Corey was on the first day of family vacation when the tragedy occurred.
There is no official name for the hotel where the family stayed, but it is known as a 4-star hotel in a resort not far from where the popular reality show “The Island of Love” was filmed.
After his death, Corey’s family and loved ones paid tribute to the “fun and loving” boy.
Darci Aughey posted on Facebook: “You have always been the most beautiful person in the world, and now you are the brightest star in the most beautiful sunsets and sky.”
Gary Larkham added:
“We live in such a cruel world. We are thinking of my best friends Lien O’Colin, Jay Darcy and Joel during this devastating time.”
According to unconfirmed local reports, Corey’s parents lost their sight for a few minutes before they found him floating in the water.
As is known, the ambulance staff revived him after performing CPR before he was taken to the hospital.
Corey died a few weeks after a British baby drowned in a swimming pool on the Costa Blanca.
Freddie Joseph Briggs died on May 25 at his parents’ swimming pool in the town of Ages, near Benidorm, prompting the town hall to declare a three-day mourning period.
The 19-month-old boy was honored at a funeral at Belfast Church and was baptized before being buried in a nearby churchyard.
