According to police, one woman was killed and seven others were injured in a shooting at a school graduation ceremony.
This was one of a shooting in Philadelphia that killed three people and injured 11 people, and a shooting that killed three people and injured 14 people in Tennessee.
Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Bucksley said about 150 people were in attendance at a prom near Summerton, South Carolina, when the shooting began at 11 p.m. Saturday.
The shooting may be gang related, Baxley said. It is unknown if any of the victims were specifically targeted.
The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post that it had not yet determined “whether the munitions were fired at a specific individual or in a random crowd.”
Authorities say the woman who was fatally shot was identified as 32-year-old Odriona Kind. He was airlifted to a local hospital where he was sentenced to death. Authorities said she was the mother of four children who were studying in the Clarendon school district.
Most of the shooting victims were teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17. The other two victims were 12 and 36 years old. Police did not share the status of the surviving victims.
According to CBS, at least 70 projectiles were found at the scene.
“At this point, it is not clear what he will do after he leaves office.”
Two vehicles reportedly approached the outdoor rally before the shooting began.
The suspect fled the scene after the incident and the sheriff’s office is seeking information regarding the incident.
“This violence cannot continue,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Innocent children and adults suffer the consequences of these actions.
