Putin says no iron curtain will “shut down” the Russian economy.

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin insisted on Thursday that no Iron Curtain would fall on the Russian economy, despitethe sanctions imposed by the Westbecause Moscow will not move away from the world as the Soviet Union did.

Sanctions imposed on the West over its invasion of Ukraine have led Russia, one of the world’s largest producers of natural resources, to in the biggest economic contraction after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Reuters points out.

Asked about possible deals with partners such as China and India in the midst of the “closing” of the Russian economy, Putin, speaking ahead of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum next week, assured that Russia’s economy would remain open.

“We will not have a closed economy, we did not have and we will not have “Putin told young businessmen in a teleconference.

“We did not have a closed economy – or rather we did in the Soviet era, when we cut ourselves off, we created the so-called Iron Curtain, we created it with our own hands. “We will not make the same mistake again – our economy will be open.”
